Being a Teacher is Like Having a Garden

In The Teacher's Way you’ll give yourself confidence to try new things - just as you do with the children in your class.

Expressive Arts Institute of Oregon - The Teacher's Way

Being a teacher is like having a garden - you never stop growing no matter what the season.

As you continue growing and learning with us in our Teacher’s Way cohorts you'll get support through the many life phases and challenges facing you as an educator.

Everyone enjoys an abundant and healthy garden, not only to feed themselves and their families but to feed the world around us in a very long chain of cause-and-effect. When we each do our part tending, nurturing and sharing our harvest we can share our understanding of our emotional and psychological seasons.

Our thoughts, ideas and feelings need fertile ground to grow in. We know that kids love getting out of the classroom and getting into open spaces that allow them to explore; no different for adults. Shifting your familiarity from the typical workshop milieus to a space that is more like an atelier can be refreshing and stimulating. Making changes in an environment that feels constricted or limited is difficult to do. However, our program will give you the creative space that you need for discovery, practice, reflection and growth.

When educational systems fail to provide people with a safe community for support, validation, and a chance to practice new ideas; it can seem impossible to harvest what we know is there for the sharing. In The Teacher's Way program we have a shared intention to help each other put into action the changes within ourselves that can help make changes in the world.

If you need support nurturing your garden, come join us for the Fall Cohort 2019. And if your garden is thriving, please come share your harvest and discoveries with others in the cohort!

"Lanie created a space for me to test ideas and she gave me time to think outside my box. I was surprised how much she "got" me and understood my particular quirks! Thank you Lanie! You are gifted and inspiring."

Now is the time to either mobilize your ideas and sustain the momentum of your current efforts.

Join me this Fall.

Warmly,
Lanie

"Since the 30hr program, I take time to reflect on my day, a daily scribble or journal or drawing, I am aware that the arts tap into another plane of our waking life that we typically ignore or don't realize is there."

Knowing how you teach and what's meaningful to you is the foundation to sustaining the work you do with others.

Expressive Arts Institute of Oregon - The Teacher's Way

We use Arts-based Research tools and methods to help teachers practice and put in motion what they are learning about self-care, teaching and mentoring others.

You can discover, revive or update your teaching style and approach.
In this example Teacher Liz discovered three pillars to represent her work; Create. Connect. Commit.

Join us for meaningful conversations that spark curiosity, empathy and reciprocity.

Fall Cohort Dates:
September 14th and 28th
October 19th and 26th
November 9th

This is an important step towards the kind of work that we need to address regarding self-care, safety and trust. In this workshop we can truly work on all the aspects of learning how to express both personal and professional issues, mentoring and helping others, both adults AND children.

You will have more time to learn and go deeper into the nuanced practice with the expressive arts tools and methods.

  • You’ll develop personalized strategies. As we know self-care is personal and there are no cookie cutter solutions. The best way to explore what works for you has to be an individualized quest. In a small group you can work closely with your colleagues, and reflect in ways that feel like your needs are getting met.

  • You’ll have a chance to experience a different learning environment. Our program is about getting calm, relaxed and feeling safe to develop your skills, so we're getting you out of the conference milieu and into a wellness studio. You’ll have ample art materials and comfortable places to rest and nourish mind and body.

"Teachers need a way to recover and revitalize. This does this."

Here is a summary of what you'll get:
